1st Whycocomagh Scout Troop

• Incorporated in 1977

•Sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 123

•Member of the Highland Trail Area (Comprised of 6 other Scout Troops from Inverness and Victoria Counties, excluding the Strait Area)

• Member of the Rural Cape Breton Region (Comprised of 9 other Scout Troops from Inverness, Victoria, and Richmond Counties) 

  • 2002-2003 Scouting Year Membership Statistics:

Scouts: 10 members (6 male, 4 female)

Scouters: 4 Scouters (3 male, 1 female)

• Scout Troop meets every Tuesday night, in local school gymnasium (Whycocomagh Education Centre)

•Participated in Newfoundland Provincial Jamboree 2003 in Camp Nor'wes.

• Participated in Canadian Jamboree 2001 in Cabot Beach Park, P.E.I.

•Participated in Maritime Jamboree 1999 in Kouchibouguac National Park, N.B.

•Participated in Canadian Jamboree 1997 in Thunder Bay, Ont.

•Participated in Canadian Jamboree 1993 in Kananaskis, Alta.

•Participates in Highland Trail Area "Survivor" Fall Camp

•Participates in Glace Bay District Annual Scout/Guide May Camp

•1st Whycocomagh Scouting Sections currently include Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

The 1st Whycocomagh Scout Troop has been providing service to Whycocomagh & Area since 1977. with several fundraisers and community projects, such as:

- Trail's End Scout Popcorn (National Fundraiser)

-Scout Hot Chocolate (National Fundraiser)

-Scout Apple Day (National Fundraiser)

-Scout Trees (National Fundraiser)

-Recycling of Plastics, Glass, Aluminum and Liquor containers (#1 Local Fundraiser)

-Catering to annual Legion Branch 123 Remembrance Day Supper (Annual Fundraiser)

-Cleaning of Iron Mines Water Spout (Annual Community Service Project)
